...in order that a man may be happy, it is necessary that he should not only be capable of his work, but a good judge of his work.

function on the spot: shipbuilder

Great in special things. That is the qualification that best suits the Dutch shipbuilding. The industry consists of a number of market niches with a high high-tech nature, ranging from dredgers and offshore installations to luxury yachts or ferry.
The Netherlands builds no sea-going tanker or very large container ships. These days are -with the collapse of the famous shipbuilding group RSV, early eighties,- finally over. But the idea that shipbuilding has been downgraded to a negligible industry without prospects, is a misunderstanding.
The work in the shipbuilding industry has many facets: shipmetalworker, pipefitter or welder. Either: shipbuilder. A word that not one, but as thirty kinds of jobs on a yard refers. The TU-man who designs a ship is called shipbuilder, but the shipmetalworker, who shapes the metal as well. Working together with the result: a proud, stately, efficient and comfortable ship!
